Writing

Formatting appears as you type, a toolbar sits above the keyboard, and every note saves itself.

Editing the Q4 roadmap note, with the Saved stamp and the formatting toolbar

What you see is your note

Jotry’s editor shows formatting the moment you type it. A heading looks like a heading, a list like a list, and a checked item is struck through. Behind the scenes every note is saved in a plain, open format that other note and writing apps can read, so your notes are never locked in.

The editor with the keyboard open; the toolbar shows italic and numbered list as active
  1. The toolbar shows the formatting at the cursor: here, italic text in a numbered list.
  2. Saved turns to Edited while you type, and back once the note is saved.
  3. Word and character counts, with undo and redo beside them.

With a hardware keyboard, the usual keyboard shortcuts work too.

Checklists that live in your notes

Add to-do items anywhere in a note, nest them, and tap the box to tick them off. You can tick items in the read view without opening the editor. A note’s card shows how many are done, such as 2/4 tasks, so you can see your progress at a glance.

Saved as you go

There’s no Save button. Jotry saves after a short pause, or once you’ve written a few words, and the stamp beside the title tells you where you are: Edited while there’s something new, and Saved once it’s safe. Every save also feeds the note’s history.
