No lock-in, ever
Jotry stores every note as Markdown, the plain-text format that most writing apps understand. Whenever you like, export all your notes as ordinary .md files and open them in any text editor, Markdown app or notes app.
Export
Settings → Export notes as Markdown, then choose a folder.
- Each notebook becomes a folder, and each note a file named after its title.
- Notes that aren’t in a notebook sit at the top of the export.
- Links between notes keep working: they’re written as ordinary relative links, so they work in Obsidian, VS Code, GitHub, iA Writer and the like.
- Each file starts with a short header that records its notebook, its dates and whether it’s pinned, so a re-import puts everything back where it was.

Import
Import a whole folder, keeping its notebook folders, or pick individual Markdown files. Importing a note Jotry exported before updates that note instead of making a duplicate, and relative links between imported files become note links again.
Exports contain your current notes. Version history stays in the app. Export will never be a paid feature.
